The 2009 ISB Convention will be hosted by the Penn State
University's School of Music. Located in the College town of State
College, the University (one of the 'big ten') is located right in
the middle of Pennsylvania, making it within driving distance of a
great many major East Coast centers (Pittsburgh 2.5 hours, Philly 3,
Manhatten 3.5, Baltimore 2.5, Washington D.C. 3.5, Cleveland 4 etc)
State College airport (airport code SCE) located in University Park,
five minutes from the campus is serviced by four airlines (United,
U.S. Airways, Delta and NorthWest). While the airport is small, the
closest International Airports are Harrisburg (2 hrs), Pittsburgh,
BWI and Newark (3 hours). Penn State will organize a shuttle service
between the campus and Harrisburg airport during the Convention.
State College at an elevation of 1,200 ft is nestled in the rich
farmland of the Nittany Valley shared with Amish and Mennonite
communities. The area boasts world class hiking, biking, boating and
fishing. State College offers a huge diversity of restaurants and
bars.
